Essex County Council has said that it may reconsider the decision to switch of Colchester’s Street lights during the early hours of the morning.

The controversial policy was adopted in 2013.

But this week council bosses have said they may consider switching them back on again, subject to funding.

However, many local people are AGAINST reversing the decision stating concerns over pollution. There also appears to be no evidence showing an increase in crime in areas where street lighting has been switched off.

What do you think? Should the lights stay off or is it time to switch them back on at night? Take the vote below:

What should happen with Colchester's street lights?

  1. The lights should be on whenever it’s dark. Either an area needs to be lit – in which case it should be lit at all times – or it doesn’t. It really is as simple as that. Councils should not be effectively imposing curfews on their residents.

  2. I used to go to my mothers if she needed me i have to walk as i dont drive i cant do it now its todark so i have to phone cmdoctors etc instead.
